SUBLEASING WITH GOGOPHER
Sometimes life throws you curveballs — study abroad, internships, or just needing to move early. When that happens, subleasing with GoGopher is here to help make your off-campus housing work for you.
How It Works
Step 1: Have your prospective sublessee fill out the short info form on this page. Once we get it, we’ll send them a full rental application.
Step 2: Prospective sublessee completes the rental application.
Step 3: All original leaseholders must sign the Subleasing Addendum.
Step 4: Email everything to rent@gogopherdinkytown.com.
Step 5: When we approve, you’ll hear back from us — only then can the sublessee move in. (Important: don’t turn over keys before approval.)
What You Should Know
- There’s a $250 fee per sublease.
- You (the original leaseholder) are still responsible for rent and any damage until your lease officially ends. That means choosing a good sublessee is key.
- The security deposit stays in your name. It will be released 21 days after your lease ends (minus any deductions for damage/unpaid charges). You may want to collect a deposit from your sublessee.
- You pay rent until your lease expires — even if someone else is living there.
Tips for Picking a Great Sublessee
- Look for someone who’s responsible (past landlord or roommate references help).
- Be very clear about expectations: cleaning, shared spaces, utilities, damages.
- Put everything in writing. Get the Subleasing Addendum signed before move-in.
- Be sure to collect a deposit or other guarantee if possible.
